FEDERAL HIGH COURT STRIKES OUT CASE AGAINST CPN
The effort of CPN to regulate the Information Technology Profession and ensure standard in the profession received a boost on Thursday October 4, 2011 when the Federal High Court of Justice sitting in Ibadan struck out a case instituted against CPN by Oracle Concepts Limited, an unregistered IT company based in Ibadan.
Oracle Concept Limited instituted a case against CPN in which it claimed that CPN lacked the statutory power to compel it to register before embarking on Information Technology practices.
The case dragged on for about two years during which CPN was represented by its legal adviser, Layi Babatunde (SAN) &Co.
The case was a clear manifestation of the need for Council to carry out enforcement of the Act 49 of the 1993 that sets it up.
The legal team of CPN is presently exploring the possibility of slamming charges of illegal Information Technology practices on the company so as to use the organization as a test case of the efforts of CPN to stamp out quackery and illegal practice from the Information Technology Profession.
Additionally, necessary machinery is being put in motion by the compliance and enforcement team of CPN to ensure that illegal practice of Information Technology in Nigeria is stamped out completely and professionalism as well as best practices that conform with international standards is encouraged and promoted in the Information Technology industry.
