History was made on Thursday 25 August 2011, at the University of Ibadan when Prof Adenike Osofisan became the first female Professor of Computer  Sciences to deliver an inaugural lecture in the field of Computer Science in Nigeria. She is also the second Professor of Computer Sciences to give an inaugural lecture in the University of Ibadan since the inception of Computer Science Department in 1975.

Her inaugural lecture was titled “Transforming Data Dust to Data Gold” and it encapsulates much of the thrust of her research activities in Data Communication and Knowledge Discovery in Data Base.

Professor  Adenike  Osofisan carefully chose the topic considering the significance of data to the knowledge economy of the present century. She evaluated the vast benefits of untapped knowledge which we have missed as a result of inadequate collection and storage of data.

According to the Professor, important data that ‘have hitherto been gathering dust in our various walks of life’ can be transformed into valuable decision-making tools through information sharing and computer networking.

She informed her audience of the various research and publication which she has done as part of her contribution to knowledge.
The one day event was well attended by Professor Osofisan’s colleague in the academics and the Information Technology profession. Also, relatives, friends, students as well as  well wishers graced the occasion.
